Lying at the foot of Mount Amiata, the small village of Bagni
San Filippo has been known as a healing centre since the Middle Ages, when
its waters became famous thanks to Saint Filippo Benizzi, who lived here as
a hermit and, according to legend, worked miraculous cures.
The beautiful cascade fed by the springs, immersed in the beech and chestnut
woods, is the soul of a landscape that is rendered almost unreal by the white
concretions formed from the calcium carbonate that is deposited and solidifies,
acquiring the appearance of a blanket of snow.
Monte Amiata offers visitors a number of very interesting nature trails, whereas
the towns in the Val d'Orcia (Montalcino, San Quirico d'Orcia and Pienza)
have a wealth of historical-artistic attractions.
